Mediator Experience Day

Practice-based CPD for accredited mediators

The Mediator Experience Day (MED) is a core CPD offering for accredited mediators who want to complete their annual CPD through live mediation practice, not passive learning.

MED enables mediators to achieve the full annual Civil Mediation Council CPD requirement (6 hours) in a single day by actively participating in realistic mediation simulations, supported by professional observation and structured developmental feedback.

This CPD is designed around how mediators actually develop: through participation, reflection, and feedback.

Why choose the Mediator Experience Day?

Many CPD options involve listening, watching, or reading. While valuable, they do not always engage the practical skills mediators rely on in live cases.

The Mediator Experience Day is built on the principle that mediation is a practice discipline. Professional growth comes from doing the work, managing dynamics, exercising judgement, and reflecting on performance with experienced peers.

MED provides:

  • Practice-based CPD

  • A full year’s CPD in one focused day

  • Active participation rather than observation

  • Structured feedback you can use immediately

What the day involves

Each participant completes six hours of CPD through:

  • Acting as mediator in a two-hour recorded mock mediation

  • Participating as a party in two further mock mediations

  • Live facilitation and oversight throughout the day

  • A detailed written assessment report

  • Reflection benchmarked against CMC standards

  • Issuance of a CPD certificate on completion

Cohort sizes are deliberately kept small to ensure meaningful participation and individual feedback.

Professional feedback and assessment

All mediations are facilitated and assessed by members of the Hunt ADR Faculty, who are CMC-accredited mediators with extensive professional experience.

The assessment:

  • Is developmental, not punitive

  • Is benchmarked against recognised professional standards

  • Focuses on mediation process, judgement, and communication

  • Provides clarity on strengths and areas for development

Participants cannot fail the Mediator Experience Day. The purpose of the assessment is to support professional development and reflective practice.

Participants may choose to use their assessment report as part of their professional profile if they wish.
